about shirley

Shirley N. Carter-Kennedy, LBSW, MEd., building on years of experience as a certified educator in Special Education and Psychology, a counselor, a licensed social worker and a regional case manager for the State Department of Mental Retardation is currently completing her first inspirational novel. Shirley received her Bachelor of Science degree from Bennett College in Greensboro, NC and her Master’s degree from Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC. She has also received continued education credits from the National Institute for the Clinical Application of Behavioral Medicine, PESI, the American Academy of Bereavement, Hospice and other CMI Education Institute training seminars. Shirley has held leadership roles in the Church, the community and the professional arena. She currently serves on the Regional Prayer Team, (Appalachian Region) of Moms-In-Touch International, an organization designed to provide spiritual enrichment, encouragement and empowerment through prayer for mothers with children from birth to college and beyond. The organization impacts children and schools world wide by gathering mothers to pray weekly.

Having been widowed and a single parent for nearly fifteen years, Shirley notes her greatest accomplishment as being the birthing and raising of her three sons and encouraging and supporting them in their efforts and careers while embracing the legacy left to them by their father, a strong man of God, known for his integrity and love for not only his family but for all of mankind.

Shirley is blessed to have remarried recently. She and her husband, Brian take pride in being blessed with loving and supportive relationships in their blended family between their adult children as well as parent-child relationships. They also take pride in the freedom of sharing their faith in the workplace when the opportunity arises.
